Jennings Bernard for State Representative - District 87
Jennings Bernard

I am Jennings Bernard, and I am running for the office of Tennessee State Representative for District 87. These are trying times in our community and for many of us the time is now or never to make some changes for the better. That is why I am offering myself as the candidate to replace the late Gary Rowe, who served the people of District 87 well until his untimely death in February of this year.

Gary Rowe was my friend. He was a man with a vision for this community and he worked tirelessly to help make life better for all his constituents. Now, by the grace of GOD, I’m asking the citizens of District 87 to join me in the effort to keep this community moving in the right direction!

I’m asking you to help me create better schools!

I’m asking you to help me create better jobs!

I’m asking you to me put more officers on the streets to fight crime!

And I’m asking you to trust me when I say I will fight to keep yours taxes from getting any higher than they already are!

There are those who don’t live in District 87, who want to take charge of this election and place a candidate in this office they can control. We must not let the “power-brokers” take control of District 87. For many years I have fought to get the career politicians to become more accountable to the people they represent. Elected officials work for YOU! You don’t work for them, and it’s time to send somebody to Nashville who understands that!

I’m asking for you prayers as I attempt to take this message to every citizen of District 87 and to voters throughout Shelby County. We must take the “team approach” to solving today’s problems, because as Dr. King said “What affects one of us directly affects all of us indirectly”!

I have been a problem solver throughout my professional life. As a Sheriff’s Deputy, I have fought crime on the streets with my bare hands. Drug Dealers, Burglars, Car-jackers, and even Juvenile offenders. I know just locking people up is not going to solve the problem, so we must work to change the criminal mind-set with better prison programs and tougher laws!

As an A.M.E. Pastor I initiated outreach programs through the church to build ties with the community. Youth programs to keep our youngsters going in the right direction. The seniors programs we started created the chance for a better quality of life for those in their golden years.

We also focused on ending hunger, homelessness, and hopelessness and we made great strides towards those efforts.

My grandmother was the driving force behind me when I was growing-up, and she never missed an opportunity to place positive thoughts in my mind. She always challenged me to do my best! I love my grandmother and it’s primarily because of her that I have become the man I am today. A blessed man! I have raise 2-fine children and I’m now a grandfather. I have a successful business and I’m working to becoming just the second African-American owner of a radio station in the history of Memphis. God has given me my soul-mate, my lovely wife of many years and when I look back over my life… I can truly say I am blessed!

My wife has asked me during previous a attempt at running for public office, why would I put myself through all this… what makes me want to give so much to people I don’t really even know? I just looked at my wife and I told her, what I’m about to tell you.

We deserve better than we’re getting from our elected officials and it’s time for some good people who want a better community; for all people and not just a selected few, to step up and do everything they can to make a difference, RIGHT NOW!!!!

So, if you believe like Jennings Bernard believes, that we can have better schools, create better jobs, drastically reduce crime in our neighborhoods, and stop adding taxes to the already over-burdened tax-payers of Tennessee, I’m asking for your prayers, your help and especially your vote on August 7th.

Remember Jennings Bernard State Representative District 87!!!

Make your stand today with Jennings Bernard for State Representative, District 87…
